Creativity Tests

We're losing our creativity
The creativity test was formulated by a professor named E. Paul Torrance in the 50s and has since been given to participants by psychologists around the world. No one understand precisely why creativity has suffered in younger generations, but people have arisen suspicion that television, video games and other modern technology may be the cause for this. Kids are not challenged as frequently to expand their creativity.
A small amount of researchers think that “creativity training” programs may be beneficial to adults and kids who have trouble with creativity. While in creativity training, participants are requested to complete tasks that include making music on a keyboard, and discovering different ways to come up with solutions to common problems , I.E. how to cut back noise in a library.
Creativity is just as, if not more crucial than standard "book-smarts". Very many of the worlds best and most profound inventors, leaders, and historical figures were people who had a different means of thinking and solving problems. Creativity is in direct relation to innovation, which is responsible for new ideas and products for everyone and gives civilizations a means to grow and evolve.
Although people are becoming more intelligent, the truth that our creativity is declining is very troubling, mostly for young people since they are the ones who will go on to become world leaders, scientists, inventors, and a great many other things. In short they are our future. It is our responsibility to nurture and encourage children’s creative abilities.

Interesting topic, I am thinking that there are now more ways for children to be entertained than in the past. The games children invented for themselves in the past provided a great training in being creative. A child making up a game required imagination and improvisation skills both of which are important ones for a creative person.
Great article!
Very interesting hub.
I never actually thought about it (apparently, too much distraction..) but I think it is true that people get less and less creative.
As for myself, I wouldn't know what to do all the time if there were no computers and televisions (although when I'm on vacation, I don't get any withdrawal symptoms).
Voted up and interesting!
interesting hub! Welcome to this community, I think you will enjoy it.
Nice hub. Been thinking for a while that television and video games are to blame, but your right, another issue is modern technology. Great points. Raising awareness of this issue is really important in my mind. Really nice you wrote a hub on it (and wrote it well).
I do believe that creativity is on the down slide. It needs to be encouraged in children. Too often they are asked to conform. I think you're right... video games, television, and other forms of 'outside' the person, instead of looking 'inward' keeps people from reaching their creative selves. Good question... good hub. Thanks.

This is very interesting! I have never heard of creativity training before. It's funny you bring this up because I was JUST talking about this the other day! I was driving past a neighborhood park that was SO bland, and my dad and I were joking about how there was absolutely nothing there except grass. Great park, right? I said, "I guess the kids will have to have a really good imagination to have fun out there...I guess that's why the only thing out there is a dog." My theory was the same you mentioned - they're just too absorbed/consumed with technology and video games to develop their own unique creativity.
